Sanlorenzo has been building yachts in Italy since 1958 and today divides its range into two worlds: Yachts for coastal cruising and Superyachts for long voyages. Within these worlds are lines with clearly different characters, from fast planing yachts to explorers. This model guide sorts the lines, names typical models with the shipyard's key figures and shows which line suits which owner. Sanlorenzo yachts at a glance
On its own website the shipyard groups its range as follows:
- Yachts (coasting): SL Line, SD Line, SX Line, SP Line and the stand-alone model SHE.
- Superyachts (voyaging): Alloy Line, Steel Line, Explorer Line and X-Space Line.
The letters describe the type of hull and use, the number roughly the length in feet. An SD118 is a semi-displacement yacht of around 118 feet, a 50Steel a steel yacht of around 50 metres.
SL Line: planing yachts for fast cruising
The SL yachts are planing yachts, built for owners who want to move quickly between bays and harbours, typically in the Mediterranean. Many current models carry an "A" for the asymmetric layout: one side deck on the main deck is omitted, which makes the saloon and owner's cabin wider and brighter.
Example SL90 Asymmetric: 27.6 m long, 6.5 m beam, 8 guests and 3 crew, two MAN engines of 2,000 hp each, up to 29 knots according to the shipyard. In the Journal: the SL120A ARESYA for charter.
SD Line: semi-displacement for comfort and range
The SD yachts are semi-displacement yachts. They are slower than the SL models but run more calmly, use less fuel at cruising speed and offer more volume. They suit owners who cover longer distances and spend a lot of time on board.
Examples according to the shipyard:
- SD118: 35.75 m, 7.9 m beam, 10 guests and 5 crew, up to 18 or 19 knots depending on engines. It succeeds the SD96.
- SD132: 40.7 m, 8.4 m beam, 10 guests and 8 crew, up to 17 knots.

SX Line: crossover with space close to the water
The SX yachts combine elements of a flybridge yacht with those of an explorer. Their hallmarks are large open areas close to the water, terraced decks and fold-out side platforms. They suit owners who spend more time at anchor than under way.
Examples according to the shipyard:
- SX100: 30.5 m, 7.6 m beam, 8 guests and 5 crew, up to 23 knots.
- SX120: 36.58 m, 8 m beam, 10 guests and 6 crew, up to 24 knots.
SP Line: Smart Performance
At Sanlorenzo, SP stands for "Smart Performance". The first model of the line was the SP110, presented by the shipyard as Sanlorenzo's first open coupé. The line is aimed at owners looking for a sporty yacht with the fit-out of a large yacht.
SHE: a stand-alone model with a link to the shipyard's history
The shipyard lists SHE as a model of its own alongside the lines. The yacht of around 25.5 m with hybrid propulsion draws on the shipyard's heritage of the 1960s.
Superyachts: Alloy, Steel, Explorer and X-Space
For its largest yachts Sanlorenzo has a dedicated superyacht division. The shipyard does not draw the line by length alone: the SD132 is over 40 m long and still counts as one of the Yachts. The lines differ mainly in material and purpose:
- Alloy Line: aluminium yachts, generally lighter and faster than steel yachts of the same size.
- Steel Line: steel yachts for long voyages, among them the 50Steel. In the Journal: the hybrid 58Steel and the 74Steel Virtuosity, the shipyard's largest yacht so far.
- Explorer Line and X-Space Line: lines the shipyard, like all its superyachts, assigns to the "voyaging" category. They are designed for range and long stays on board.
Which Sanlorenzo suits whom
- Short trips, plenty of speed: SL Line.
- Long distances, lots of time on board: SD Line.
- Life at anchor, close to the water: SX Line.
- Sporty with a large-yacht fit-out: SP Line.
- Voyages across seasons and oceans: superyachts from the Alloy, Steel, Explorer or X-Space lines.
