With the unveiling of the new Sanlorenzo 58Steel, the Italian shipyard introduces what may become one of the most important superyacht developments in the 55–60 metre segment. More than simply a successor to the acclaimed 57Steel platform, the new 58Steel represents a broader evolution in luxury yacht design, combining sustainability, silent cruising technology and highly architectural onboard living concepts.

The first unit, Perla Lunar, has already been delivered, while a second hull is currently under construction — a strong indication of the market’s growing demand for next-generation steel superyachts.

A New Benchmark Between 55 and 60 Metres

Sanlorenzo originally redefined the steel superyacht segment in 2010 with the introduction of its first steel platform. Over the past 15 years, the brand has established itself as one of the leading shipyards for yachts under 2,000 GT. With the 58Steel, Sanlorenzo pushes this philosophy further by combining expanded volumes, hybrid propulsion and fully customizable layouts within a platform designed around long-term owner comfort.

Designed by Zuccon International Project, the yacht features an extended 10.8 metre beam and interior volumes comparable to yachts closer to 64 metres in length.

Massimo Perotti, Executive Chairman of Sanlorenzo, describes the yacht as:

“A superyacht that redefines proportion, privacy and performance, offering a new dimension of silent, sustainable cruising.”

Diesel-Electric Hybrid Propulsion

One of the most important innovations aboard the 58Steel is the introduction of Sanlorenzo’s first diesel-electric propulsion system within the steel line. The yacht utilizes:

  • five 425 kW generators
  • a 1 MWh battery pack
  • azimuthal pod propulsion
  • modular hybrid architecture

This system allows:

  • silent cruising for up to two hours
  • zero-emission hotel operations for up to eight hours at anchor
  • approximately 10% lower emissions compared to conventional propulsion systems.

Beyond sustainability, the re-engineered engine room frees more than 40 square metres of additional interior volume — space that has been redirected toward guest and wellness areas.

This approach reflects a broader trend within the luxury yachting industry, where technology increasingly serves not only efficiency but also spatial experience and onboard lifestyle.

A Floating Luxury Residence

The interior philosophy of the 58Steel strongly reflects Sanlorenzo’s architectural approach to yacht design. Instead of focusing on excessive ornamentation, the yacht embraces restrained luxury through natural materials, balance and proportion.

Interior materials include:

  • dark woods
  • Calacatta Borghini marble
  • mother-of-pearl accents
  • champagne-finished detailing.

The layout itself is centered around owner privacy and flexible guest experiences.

Key features include:

  • two full-beam VIP cabins on the lower deck
  • a “Supreme VIP” suite on the main deck
  • a panoramic owner’s suite on the upper deck
  • private office and dressing areas
  • convertible cinema lounge
  • infinity pool integration between indoor and outdoor spaces.

The Three-Sided Beach Club

One of the yacht’s defining elements remains the expansive three-sided beach club — an architectural signature already associated with Sanlorenzo’s larger steel platforms.

The beach area transforms into a floating terrace featuring:

  • bar lounge
  • hammam
  • gym
  • beauty salon
  • direct sea access.

This concept reflects the increasing shift within luxury yachting from formal onboard layouts toward wellness-oriented and experiential living environments.

A Strategic Shift Toward Sustainable Superyachts

The 58Steel also forms part of Sanlorenzo’s broader “Road to 2030” sustainability strategy, which includes:

  • methanol fuel cell integration
  • hydrogen-powered support vessels
  • low-impact propulsion systems
  • reduced operational emissions.

Over the past years, Sanlorenzo has increasingly positioned itself not only as a luxury shipyard, but as one of the leading innovators in sustainable high-end yachting.

This positioning has become especially relevant for modern yacht owners seeking:

  • quieter onboard experiences
  • lower environmental impact
  • future-proof technology
  • long-term asset stability.

The Future of Luxury Steel Yachting

The launch of the 58Steel demonstrates how the next generation of superyachts is evolving beyond pure size and extravagance. Instead, the market increasingly prioritizes:

  • intelligent engineering
  • spatial efficiency
  • architectural interiors
  • silent cruising
  • sustainability
  • lifestyle integration.

Rather than competing through excess, Sanlorenzo continues to differentiate itself through restraint, proportion and innovation — values that increasingly define the future of modern luxury yachting.

Hybrid Efficiency and Long-Range Capability

One of the most notable aspects of the 58Steel is its diesel-electric propulsion architecture. The yacht utilizes dual 850 kW E-Pod propulsion units combined with five variable-speed generators, creating a quieter and more efficient cruising experience compared to traditional propulsion systems.

With a transoceanic cruising range of approximately 4,000 nautical miles at an economic speed of 11 knots, the yacht is capable of extended Mediterranean, Atlantic and long-distance cruising itineraries.

Designed for Modern Superyacht Ownership

The 58Steel has been engineered around the growing demand for:

  • silent cruising
  • lower emissions
  • increased interior volumes
  • flexible owner layouts
  • wellness-focused onboard living.

The steel hull combined with an aluminium superstructure also supports improved stability and long-term offshore capability while maintaining contemporary exterior proportions.
