The Italian Sea Group: five binding offers, court reorganises the proceedings

According to its own announcement, TISG received five binding offers on 19 October. All are structured as purchases of business units, two of them covering the entire company. According to Il Sole 24 Ore, these two come from Azimut-Benetti and SRI Global. After a hearing on 28 October, the court in Florence intends, according to Pressmare, to convert the proceedings into a court-supervised settlement with creditors. Azimut-Benetti is said to have raised its offer to €210m, while SRI Global names a total of €260m, €40m of it for restarting production. There is no TISG announcement on the selection yet; the restructuring plan is due with the court by the end of October.

Sanlorenzo bids only for the La Spezia yard

Polo Nautico Carrara, a company wholly owned by the Sanlorenzo group, has submitted a binding offer for TISG’s “La Spezia Shipyard” business unit. Originally more was planned. According to Sanlorenzo, the scope was limited to this site because of the documents available and the timetable. According to Teleborsa, Bank of America considers the smaller offer easier to execute.

Comment

More space for large yachts is the theme of these weeks. Ferretti is expanding in Ancona, Sanlorenzo wants La Spezia, and a new owner is being sought for Admiral and Perini Navi. Anyone with a yacht in build or a contract at TISG should check now how deposits and guarantees are secured and who will deliver in future. For buyers of pre-owned yachts, the prices at FLIBS show that negotiating is possible again.
