Some Italian shipyards are booked until 2030 for large steel yachts. This makes well-maintained pre-owned yachts more attractive.

Topic of the month. Anyone ordering a large steel yacht from Italy today will, at some shipyards, wait until around 2030. At the same time, one of the well-known shipyard groups is looking for new owners. For buyers, this means that a well-maintained pre-owned yacht is often the quicker way onto the water, and with yachts from shipyards in transition it is worth taking a look at warranty and service.

Opinion: what a superyacht really costs

Broker Will Christie considers the rule of thumb of ten per cent of the yacht's value per year too crude: what matters, he argues, is usage and crew. He draws on his own experience, not on a study.

Commentary

October shows a two-speed market. New builds of large yachts take years, while good pre-owned yachts from well-known shipyards change owners quickly. Anyone wishing to be on the water in 2027 should therefore look into both early: the build slot and the pre-owned market. We are happy to advise you independently, including on viewings at boot in Düsseldorf.
